Hurricanes - 1944 and 1954
Two soft-covered books of photos, printed by The Standard-Times, New Bedford, MA and The Cape Cod Standard-Times, Hyannis, MA of the destruction to Southeastern, MA following the hurricanes of 1944 and 1954. Posted are the photos relating to Provincetown although the actual books contain many more photos of other towns on the Cape and South Shore. Donated to the Provincetown History Project by Susan Avellar from her family's collection. Some of the pages of the Hurricane 1944 book have been 'customized' with a rubber stamp proclaiming 'Mrs. J.M. Avellar, 437 Commercial St., Provincetown, Mass.' that Susan and her sister, Mary Jo, found to be an irresistible 'toy', unaware as children of the historical significance of these books.
