Heritage Day Keynote Speech by Josephine Del Deo June 16, 2012
Transcript of the keynote speech delivered by Josephine Del Deo at the June 16, 2012 Heritage Day celebration held at the Provincetown Public Library at 356 Commercial Street, to commemorate the completion of the Library renovation project. Josephine Del Deo is credited with leading the drive to rescue the building from eventual degradation and destruction by having the Town purchase the building and use it as the home of the Provincetown Heritage Museum, which ran from 1975 until it's doors closed permanently in 2002, at which the building became the new home of the Provincetown Public Library. Josephine served as the director of the Heritage Museum from 1975 to 1995, and provides a remarkable retrospective on the uses of the building and her experience with the building when it was the home of the Provincetown Heritage Museum.
