Historic District Survey information for 14 Court St
Architectural Description: 14 Court Street is a 2-story, 3-bay 1/2 house with side gable roof. A shed dormer is located on the rear of the main block, and new gable dormers are on the south slope of the ell roof. The main entry consists of a pane and panel door with flat hood supported by pendanted end brackets. Windows are 6/6 wood DHS with storms. A rear ell with gable roof has secondary entrances on the south facade, at the 1st and 2nd stories. Renovation work is ongoing, including recladding, replacement windows on the rear ell and secondary facades of main block. Exterior steps are being constructed to access 2nd story entry and rear roof deck.
Historical Narrative: As per Tom Boland (1994): The house at 14 Court Street is shown on the map of 1836 and the atlas of 1858. In 1880, the site was owned by J. Rogers. In the directory for 1886, a Joseph Berry, a fisherman, resided here. Mr. Berry is noted again in the 1889 directory along with a Joseph Carlos, another fisherman. By 1907, the house had changed hands to a Mr. A. King.
